Scott Norton is the agent for former Stars forward Krys Barch and current Stars forward Ryan Garbutt, and heâs bringing one of his unique ideas to Dallas on Monday.
Norton has created âMake My Day Mondaysâ as a way for his clients (and everyone, really) to help out another person. With the plan, he simply encourages a random act of kindness every Monday. Now, he certainly doesnât want those acts coinfined to Mondays, and he would love it if everyone did more than one random act of kindness, but he believes the small step of seeking out a good deed to start the week will eventually add to more and more good deeds.
âPeople feel they cannot give enough, so they donât give at all,â Norton said on his website. âMany people get phone calls and letters from various charitable organizations asking for amounts that are out of their range, and because there is a recession, they feel itâs excusable not to give, but itâs not. We should help, but be allowed to offer what we can, even if its only a dollar or five minutes of our time.â
Norton and Garbutt will play host to a first ever MMDM Dallas event on Monday at Sfuzzi Uptown. The event will run from 6-8 p.m and will include complimentary pizza and happy hour drink specials. A $20 donation is recommended, but fans are encouraged to give all they can.
The celebration will include giveaways of tickets and sports memorabilia via drawings.
âScott is so good at giving back to the community, and thatâs a great thing to have in an agent,â Garbutt said. âIâm excited to learn about the charities heâs giving to, but I also like the fact he just likes to help people out, no matter who they are.â
Garbutt made his NHL debut last season, and earned a two-year one-way contract because of his play. He is expected to be a big part of the team this season. Garbutt, 27, is a product of Brown University, and has had to push through the minors the past three seasons. He said hard work has been the key to his ascent, and he expects to continue doing what has worked for him.
âItâs my first time going through something like this, but I know I worked really hard just to get this opportunity, so Iâm still sticking with the same plan,â he said. âI had a good summer of work, and Iâm hoping I get a chance to make use of that pretty quickly. Iâm going to work hard. Thatâs what I do.â
Heâs also hoping to learn a few things from Norton, and his approach to life.
âWe want people not to merely try to imitate a playerâs slap shot, but a playerâs good will,â Norton said.
