The American Heart Associationâs My Heart. My Life. Dallas Heart Walk, sponsored nationally by Subway and Jenny, is a three-mile noncompetitive walk that will be held Saturday at Victory Park downtown.
It raises funds to support cardiovascular research and educational programs in Dallas-Fort Worth. More than 50,000 participants are expected.
Heart disease and stroke remain the No. 1 and No. 4 killers of all Americans, but studies show that walking at least 30 minutes a day can reduce a personâs risk of developing cardiovascular disease.
This yearâs event is chaired by Bob Shapard, chairman and CEO of Oncor, with Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings as honorary chairman. Actress and comedian Nicole Sullivan will kick off the walk.
The Dallas Heart Walk set a national benchmark last year by raising $4 million, and this yearâs goal is $4.5 million. Activities include exercise demonstrations, snacks and samples, kidsâ games, rides and family activities. The event is free, and pets are welcome.
The entertainment starts at 7:30 a.m., and the walk begins at 9.
